Senior attackman Dylan Gergar led the way with three goals as the Severn Admirals, (2-1) took down the Archbishop Spalding Cavaliers, (4-2), 8-3 on a brisk Saturday night at Loyola University in front of over 1,100 fans.
The crucial win for Severn marks a much-needed MIAA conference victory as they secure themselves atop the league.
Senior midfielders Joel Mandish and Jake Lilly each helped the Admirals secure the win with a goal and an assist each, while sophomore attackman Collin Ervin had two goals.
The first quarter started slowly with both teams only mustering one goal, but combining for nine turnovers and committing three penalties. Mandish scored the lone goal of the first quarter with ten seconds remaining.
Sophomore attackman Russell Melendez tied the game up with 5:13 left in the second quarter. Twenty-six seconds later junior midfielder Henry Rentz converted a goal despite being a man down.
Severn would score six of the next seven goals take a commanding lead over the Cavaliers. Senior midfielder Niklas McFarland scored his lone goal at the 3:18 mark of the third quarter.
Cavaliers’ senior midfielder Dan Shay would finish the game off scoring a goal with only 44 seconds remaining to cut the deficit to five.
Severn’s Henry Rentz finished the game with five groundballs and two caused turnovers. Jacob Jarosz went 9/15 from the faceoff to secure the majority of possession for the Admirals.
